CHESTNUT 2023 - 2024

Welcome back Year 6!

We hope you are ready for the exciting year ahead!

The class will be taught by Miss Evans, and supported by Mrs Gong, Mrs Gainey and Mrs Fenwick.

Year 6 is such an exciting and incredibly busy year! There is a lot of responsibility and independence expected from the children but this is a great way to support them with their transition up to high school. There are key roles to take on, such as being a Buddy, a No Outsiders Ambassador, Reading Ambassador, Safety Officer or even an Environment Officer. The Buddy system is extra special because it involves the Year 6 children supporting the new Reception class with their transition to Primary School. Another role that some of the children volunteer to be is a Play Leader - which consists of them setting up activities during break and lunchtimes to encourage the younger children to develop their multi-skills.

Our History and Geography units this year begin with a World War II study in the Autumn Term, Global Warming in Spring and an ‘Invaders’ topic in the Summer where the children will conduct a historical study on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.. The children will be using their Historical and Geographical skills, that they have been improving since starting at Childer Thornton, to weigh up evidence and justify the significance of certain Historical events, as well as identify key factors that have contributed to global warming and how we can create a sustainable school.

In the Summer Term, the children will complete their statutory assessments. These will take place on May 9th - May 12th 2021. Children always say this is one of their favourite weeks of the year as we really do make it as enjoyable as possible! As soon as they are finished, the children will find out what their Year 6 production will be - as up until this point the details will be a closely guarded secret! This gives all of our Year 6s the chance to get up on the stage and share their fantastic talents.

We have a VERY busy Summer Term! In June, we will be going on our residential to the Conway Centre where we will experience some very exciting activities: Kayaking, Via Ferrata and an amazing day on the coast where we will be Sea Level Traversing. The focus of the trip is not only to give the children some amazing opportunities, but also to develop their confidence and teamwork skills.

We are lucky enough to have some specialist teachers who support the children in Music, MFL and PE throughout the week.

Music - Tuesday.

Spanish - Wednesday.

PE - Tuesday.

Forest Schools - Friday aut 2.

We have such an exciting year ahead and I cannot wait to get started!

Thank you again for your continued support,

Miss Evans
