Our vision for computing at Childer Thornton is that we prepare children to be confident participants for their futures as digital citizens where technology will undoubtedly play a pivotal part in their lives.

Children today are born immersed into technology in a way that their parents and carers were not and so it is our duty as teachers to educate them in this ever-changing, increasingly digital world. We believe that children should be masters of technology in order for them to feel empowered to use it safely, purposefully and creatively. With technology advancing at a rapid rate, many of the jobs that will exist in the future in the field of computing have not even been invented yet.

We recognise that we have a responsibility to equip children with the knowledge and skills required for the future. We recognise that the best prevention for many issues we currently see with technology/social media is through education. We want our pupils to understand that there is always a choice with using technology and as a school we utilise technology (especially social media) in a positive way.

Our computing curriculum allows children to be creative problem-solvers by allowing them opportunities to share and promote their own ideas using technologies that they choose. Building knowledge in this subject will allow pupils to effectively demonstrate their learning through the creative use of technology.
