Extra-curricular Activities

Visits & Visitors

We believe very strongly in providing opportunities for children that are above and beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum. Experience shows us that children gain a much deeper understanding of the world if they are able to learn from first-hand experiences and to make meaningful links between subjects. Therefore, we endeavour to 'hook' children into their learning by providing exciting and inspiring experiences linked to the topic they are learning such as visits out of school, or inviting visitors into school.

We also take all our children away on residential visits, from overnight stays in Y2 and Y3, building up to 4 nights in Y6. We use Cheshire Outdoor Education Centres such as Delamere (Y2), Beeston (Y3), Tattenhall or Burwardsley (Y4) and the Conway Centre on Anglesey (Y5 & Y6). In Y5, the children take part in the AEMS course (Arts Education in a Multi-cultural Society) and outdoor pursuits such as canoeing, abseiling, sailing, etc in Y6.

Forest School Sessions

We are extremely fortunate that one of our parent governors, Steph Mitchell, is a trained Forest Schools practitioner. In 2016 she will be delivering weekly Forest School sessions for our Reception children. The sessions have been highly successful and the children have loved them.  For more information please see https://www.forestschools.com/

After-School Clubs

We run a wide range of after-school clubs for the benefit of our children. These include: choir, gardening, computing, art, tag rugby, Spanish, football, netball, cross-country, Streetdance, hockey. Some of these clubs are run by school staff, for which there is currently a weekly charge of £1 to cover costs, some are run by external providers such as Premier Sports (costs vary). Please contact the school office it you are interested in finding out more.

We do stress that these clubs are run for the benefit of the children, and are not to be relied upon for childcare. There is nothing worse for our staff, having spent a long day teaching, to be faced with children who have no interest in the club but whose parents have booked them in for an extra hours peace! If you do need childcare after-school, we have our highly popular Wise Owls clubs.
