Oak 2016 - 2017

Mrs Powell

Mrs Jackson

Welcome to oak class - Reception

In Oak class we are taught by Mrs Powell from Monday - Thursday, and Mr Jones on Friday. Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Jackson. We are a very creative class. We really enjoy designing and making and expressing ourselves through role play.

We learn through the Foundation Stage curriculum. All our teachers listen to us and think about what we are interested in, then they plan lots of exciting experiences and activities for us  based on the things that we like, helping us to learn whilst we are playing.

We are learning to be self-confident and independent. We are becoming confident to ask for things that we need help with and exploring how to form good relationships with others. We are learning our school rules and how to listen really well. We are getting ‘school ready’.

We work with numbers up to twenty and we think about adding and subtracting, counting on or back to find an answer. We make patterns and find 3D shapes. We are starting to learn to read and write. We have ‘Read Write Inc.’ sessions every day and we have started to read and write words on our own. We will be able to write sentences on our own by the time we’re ready to move into Year 1!

Our parents are really involved in our learning. At the beginning of the year, they were told all about how to help us to learn at home. They read with us every night.  Our learning journeys are online on a program called Orbit – that means that our grown-ups can read all about the things that we do at school each day, and they can even add to our learning journey themselves so that our teachers can see all of the great learning that goes on at home!

We are happy, inquisitive, enthusiastic learners – we are starting our journey through school with a smile.
