Maple 2017 - 2018

Miss Cadwallader

Welcome to Year 1’s class page

It is the start of a new school year and we are all extremely excited to be in year 1 as is Miss Cadwallader, who has joined the school this year. In Maple class we will also have the help of Mrs Read during each morning. We are all very enthusiastic about the year ahead and have a natural curiosity as well as a readiness to learn. Everyone in Maple class will be working hard on core values throughout the year as well as lots of other exciting things.

During our first term we will be focusing on the book ‘Lost and Found’ and look at the journey the penguin takes. The main focus will be 'Journeys'. We will also explore our local area and identify different landmarks within Childer Thornton and discover if we can see them on our own journey, linking it to our geography work. In addition to this we will look at the journeys that other particular characters have been on from other stories for example, the Polar Bear in ‘The journey home’ and ‘The day the crayons came home’.

Spring term is going to be a mysterious one as we look at the book 'Leon and the place between'. We will be writing some amazing stories in Literacy as well as linking in some cross curricular learning. We will be also relating our work to the story 'The magic tool box'. From this we will be learning about time and the different times in the story that the magic box works for Teddy, as well as the different toys mentioned throughout.

Our focus for the Summer term will be 'Growing and Changing' where we will work alongside the book 'Windows'. We will plant a range of different seeds including beans and see how they change and grow by linking to in our science of seasons and weather. From this we will be covering various history, georgaphy and creative objectives through our work.

We are all very excited for a busy year ahead, including Miss Cadwallader.

Some of our targets for this year are

· To use capital letters in all the correct places

· To re-read our work to see if it all makes sense

· To write on the line and use a full stop

· To read and write numbers from 1 to 20

· To recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes and some of their properties.
